Between May 17 and 31, 1965, the Minister for Immigration, Mr Opperman, visited Britain and the continent as part of an eleven week tour to promote migration to Australia. He was accompanied by his private secretary Mrs D Simpson and by the Secretary of the Department of Immigration, Mr P R Heydon. In Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium, France, Greece and Britain he discussed Australia's immigration prospects with Government Officials, inspected Australian migration offices, gave dozens of press, radio and television interviews.
