Between May 17 and 12, 1965, the Minister for Immigration, Mr Opperman, visited Britain as part of an eleven week tour to promote migration to Australia. He was accompanied by his private secretary Mrs D Simpson and by the Secretary of the Department of Immigration, Mr PR Heydon. He gave dozens of press, radio and television interviews and even found time to meet some of his old cycling friends. In London, on May 24, Mr Opperman farewelled a (Yorkshire) family bound for Geelong. They were Mr and Mrs Eric Cawthra, Janet 8, John 6, June 5, and Jeffrey 8 months. The picture shows Mr Opperman and the Cawthra family outside Australia House.
