Once a year the Australian National and inter-club Surf Championships are held, this year in Coolangatta where the top live savers from each Australian State compete for Australian titles. In the 58 years since its inception more than 145, 000 lives have been saved by members of the Association. Today new strength is being added to the ranks of life savers with the influx of many migrants' members, a number of whom took part in the 1966 Australian National Surf Championship. A surf boat about to catch a wave on the row back to the beach; to catch a good wave can mean the difference between defeat and victory.
