A two-week feast of music, drama, opera, art exhibitions and open-air spectacles this month (March) put the Australian city of Adelaide among the privileged ranks of communities successful in staging an ambitious Festival of Arts. Success came from the blending of three ingredients from the old and new worlds. Top-ranking visiting artists from Europe and America, gifted Europeans now living in Australia and the Australian-born. Nine years ago Hungarian-born Robert Pikler settled in Australia, now he play the Viola in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, one of four orchestras taking part in the Festival for symphony concerts and opera.
