Adelaide, capital of South Australia, is a comparatively small city of half a million people, but from this gained a sense of cultural unity for a programme embracing four symphony orchestras, three operas, three plays, exhibitions of world art, sculpture and architecture; together with brilliant young French pianist Philippe Entremont, Canadian soprano Lois Marshall, British actors Robert Speaight and Sir Donald Wolfit, Australian soprano Joan Hammond and Italian violinist Gioconda de Vito.
