Overseas talent was the main ingredient in the fine fare offered at Australia's third festival of Arts. The names of top-class artists from Europe and America and gifted newcomers now settled in Australia were prominent among credits for the 165 performances of music, ballet, opera, drama, song and dance which drew 400 000 people to the two weeks' cultural feast. An international flavour was reflected in the many floats in the Festival procession. Polish-born Joseph Szczepanek, who lived in England before migrating to Australia, had one of the most unusual exhibits in the Exhibition of Migrants Art and Sculpture at the Adelaide Festival of the Arts.
