Nine years ago Englishman John Marshall, 44, jokingly suggested to his wife that they should migrate to Australia. However, they began to take the joke seriously after writing to Mrs Marshall's cousin in Port Kembla, New South Wales and receiving glowing reports of the country from him. John's radio and electrical business was not doing well, so they packed up and left Shirley, Southampton, for Port Kembla. John is now an ambulance officer in the first aid centre of the Port Kembla steelworks. He and his family are so happy here that he says; "it might have been a weak joke, but that was one time when a sense of humour really paid off." John checks through his files at the first aid centre
