A 29-year-old Dutchman, Jan van Kempen from Kastankelaan 6, Hilversum travelled one-and-a-half times around the world before settling in Australia. He was a cashier with the Netherlands Trading Society in Dutch New Guinea and half way through his three years term spent a fortnight's holiday in Sydney. As a result when returned to Holland he resigned from the bank, and came to Australia through Canada and the United States. Within a week he joined the staff of the Commonwealth Bank Australia in its Migrant Information Service in Brisbane. He speaks five languages and his job is to help migrants and to act as interpreter and translator. Mr van Kempen at work
