Sydney's Opera House is being built on Bennelong Point, a 5-acre stretch of land jutting into Sydney Harbour. Completion date is 1967. The designer, Brilliant Danish architect, Joern Utzon, was one of more than 200 architects from all over the world who submitted designs for the Opera House, when a 5000 Australian Pound contest was conducted to find a suitable design in 1956. Beginnings of the great concourse leading into the main hall of the Opera House. The concourse sweeps 280 feet from east to west. The arch ribs of the roof required a complete new method of construction
