English migrants in Northern Territory Police Force - Perhaps it's the informality which makes Darwin such a friendly city. There is an easy going and relaxed air about this city of about 20 000 people. New housing areas are being developed, public buildings erected and the commercial centre of the city is growing rapidly. First constable Harold Darwin is stationed at Adelaide River, 70 miles south of Darwin and the total area of his beat is 5000 square miles. He transmits any flying doctor calls that are needed, together with routine radio calls including "lost tourists". Constable Darwen, who is 33, came to Australia with his parents 14 years ago
