The Australian government has provided 30 hostels for Immigrants from Britain and Europe. They are situated close to the cities of Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne and Adelaide, with ready access to industrial areas. The hostels are operated by Commonwealth Hostels Ltd, a Government instrumentality. Families of three or four get two or three rooms. Bathrooms, showers, toilets and laundries are in separate communal blocks. Meals are provided in dining rooms on the cafeteria system. The divan bed, as provided in the bedroom of parents, makes a comfortable settee during the day. June 1958
