42 wide-eyed children from the Migrant Accommodation Centre, Wacol East, near Brisbane, recently inspected the huge Northgate Cannery, where most of Queensland's pineapple crop is processed. The children came from Holland, Finland, Denmark, Hungary and Poland. A "pineapple derby" was staged during the visit and won by Hungarian-born Laszlo Csermak, 9, who ate half a pineapple in 97 seconds. He was followed closely by Frank Jenker, 14, from Voorhout, Holland and Tuevo Nupponen, from Lappeenrante, Finland. "Derby" winner Laszlo Csermak, 9, from Hungary, discarded his spoon in the latter stages. He won, eating his half-pineapple in 97 seconds. April 1959 TITLE:
