Wallace Callen finished building this ketch in 1971. He set sail from Hervey Bay, Queensland, attempting to sail the world with his family. His daughter published a book about their journey in 2013 called "Around the World in a Cement Boat: A Young Girl's True Story."

Wallace Callen, a chiropractor, came to Australia from Missouri, USA. As a boy, he'd read Joshua Slocum's book "Sailing Alone Around the World." In Queensland, he learned to sail and wanted to try his hand at sailing the world, too. It took him two years to build the boat in his spare time and he then set sail from Hervey Bay with his wife and three daughters (one of whom was a newborn). Their story can be read in the book "Around the World in a Cement Boat" by one of his grown daughters, Cheryl Trzasko, published in 2013.
