Many thousands of European migrants have received their introduction to the English language while travelling by ship to Australia. Lessons are conducted six days a week by shipboard education officers appointed by the Department of Immigration. They are assisted by volunteer teachers drawn from English speaking passengers on board. Migrants receive about one hours tuition each day and are given "homework' to do in their spare time. Library on board provides Australian books and magazines from all States. Pictured is Mrs Almut Brinkies, from Hanau, Germany, who will settle in Sydney with her husband, Hans
