Thirty-three year-old Joe Engwirda, who rescued ten Danish seamen from a sunken capsized dredge off the coast of Australia, will receive the George Medal, the highest decoration in the British Commonwealth for civilian bravery, in January, 1966. Mr Engwirda, a professional driver, rescued the seamen after the hull from eight to 12 hours. A police diver and member of the crew of the Danish dredge also received George Medals, and seven other Australians received decorations for their part in the rescue
