Australian Iron and Steel Limited plant at Port Kembla, near Wollongong, New South Wales. British migrant Bert Shawley from Willingboro, Northants, uses an iron bar to break up slag in the trough from No 3 blast furnace. A skuller, his job is to clear the trough ready for next run of molten iron. The furnace works continuously. It is tapped every four hours. It produces 1700 tons a day
