Australia this year gained 7th place in world production of motor vehicles - and reached another peak in her story of post-war development. Australians now are buying more than 250 000 new motor-vehicles each year and, with rising population and prosperity, this figure probably will exceed 300 000 by 1970. Apart from the home market, Australian manufacturers are building up a valuable car export market to neighbouring countries, including New Zealand, Ceylon, South Africa, Indonesia and Malaya. Comprising more than 50 per cent of the workers in Australian car plants, migrants from the United Kingdom and Europe are playing a vital and varied part in the industry.
