Tremendous post-war development is fast turning Victoria's Latrobe Valley into the most important power and fuel centre in the southern Hemisphere. Huge brown coal open-cuts, power stations, briquette works and gasification plants have made the valley the industrial nerve centre of Victoria. Many of the valley's present population and some of Australia's foremost planners, visualise that within forty years the Latrobe Valley will have big, bustling skyscraper cities and a population counted in millions. Reserves of proven coal exceed 22,000,000,000 tons. Terry McDonell, has been three years in Australia, and now works in the administrative offices of the 8,000,000 Australian pounds Gas and Fuel Corporation Gasification plant at Morwell. Terry, who is 24, formerly lived at Red House Hill, Ireland
