Former Swiss poultry farmer, Ernest Schweizer, 34, is now one of the biggest strawberry growers in Australia. In two years he has carved his 13 acre farm, 24 miles outside Brisbane, out of virgin bush. In addition to five acres of small crops he has 180 000 strawberry plants and employs 18 pickers during the strawberry season. Mr Schweizer landed in Australia 10 years ago with 500 Pounds to his name but he has been able to spend 7000 Pounds in two years developing the farm. During the strawberry season he is now spending more than 100 Pounds a week on air freight to fly his strawberries 920 miles to Melbourne.
