handicapped Latvian refugees arrive - Australia's "World Refugee Year" gestured of accepting 60 refugee families with physically handicapped members reunited the PRIEDE family when the liner CASTEL FELICE reached Melbourne. Mr and Mrs Rolfe Priede are greeted by Mr and Mrs Gunars Priede and their son Gunars from Latvia found themselves in a refugee camp in Germany at the end of WWII. By 1950 Gunars was able to migrate to Australia, but his parents could not follow because Mr Priede was unable to pass Australia's normal health requirements. This year though, the Priedes were accepted as one of the 60 refugee families to be granted permission to migrate to Australia
