WW II he moved to Germany, where he lectured at the School of Fine and Applied Art at Friedburg, before migrating to Melbourne in 1949. In 1953 he attracted much favourable attention with a one man exhibitions of drawings and sculpture, followed by the gaining of the first prize in a national competition for religious art.
