The Orient liner Orontes, carrying 457 British migrants nominated by Australian Apex Clubs, arrived at Fremantle on April 24, 1960. Apex members in all States sought out accommodation and jobs for the migrants. The Apex contingent included 119 families. Four families have stayed in Western Australia. The other are to live in South Australia (8 families), Tasmania, 6, New South Wales, 58, Victoria, 15 and Queensland 28. The Australian Minister for Immigration (Mr A R Downer) sent a message of welcome to the ship as it reached Fremantle and this was read by West Australian Member of Parliament, Mr Fred Chaney. All Perth metropolitan Apex Clubs combined to take all Apex migrants on a tour of Perth and Suburbs. Here the migrants are seen being marshalled into cars for the trip
