In the biggest air lift of British migrants so far, 104 young Britons - single men and women and married couples without children - reached Sydney under 30 hours from London Airport. They were sponsored by Sydney Apex Clubs which undertook to "adopt" them on arrival to help them settle in private accommodation and introduce them to employers and others in their early days in Sydney. Apexian Ludwig Pier points out features of Sydney's skyline from the roof of the Chevron-Hilton Hotel, 15 storeys above King's Cross to Marlene McCaffer and another former English woman, Mrs Diana Harrison, now of Sydney
