A young British migrant, Miss Doreen Leeson, 21, formerly of Middlesex, was "Queen for a Day" in Sydney when she arrived by MV STRATHNAVER on the 24th of May. She was 1000th migrant to be adopted by the Royal Commonwealth Society, Sydney, and as fitting co-incidence she arrived right on Commonwealth Day. She was met by members of the Royal Commonwealth Society. The society's Chairman of the "Bring out a Briton" Committee, Mr R D Stuckey, OBE presented her with an honorary membership of the society.
