Childhood friends Josef and Maria Lohregger came to Perth, WA, from Austria, 1952, to start life in a new land as newly-weds. Maria was lonely, missed Austria and her family of four brothers and three sisters. In February 1957, the Lohreggers reached a reluctant decision. Maria would go home and Joseph would stay in Perth. Within a few months Maria was writing to him that she was homesick for Australia. "I've been seeing Austria through a halo all this time and could not see past it to realise how well off we were in Perth." So Maria came back at her job as a dressmaker and Joseph is working as a plumber. Here they are at their home in Perth the day after their reunion. December 1957
