Queensland voluntary organizations combined with the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments to provide a special birthday present as part of Queensland's Centenary Celebrations this year. They sponsored many of the 438 British assisted migrants for Queensland aboard the Centenary contingent, the ORION when she arrived in Queensland in the post-war period. As well as the contingent, the ORION also carried the 40 000 assisted British migrants to arrive in Queensland. Queensland Minister for Public Works and Local Government, Mr J.A.
