In June, 1965, the Minister for Immigration, Mr Hubert Opperman, visited Germany in the course of an eleven weeks' tour of Britain and Europe to promote migration to Australia. Mr Opperman, who was accompanied by the Secretary of the Department of Immigration, signed the new German-Australian Migration Agreement in Bonn on June 21. Earlier that month he had visited Berlin, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne, where he inspected regional offices of his department and conferred with German and Australian officials.
