In June, 1965, the Minister for Immigration, Mr Hubert Opperman, visited Germany in the course of an eleven weeks' tour of Britain and Europe to promote migration to Australia. Mr Opperman, who was accompanied by the Secretary of the Department of Immigration, signed the new German-Australian Migration Agreement in Bonn on June 21. In Berlin, Mr and Mrs Opperman were received by Mayor Willy Brandt. Mr Opperman was presented with a replica of the Bell of Freedom and a platter made by the State Porcelain Factory
