The Australian Government has provided 30 hostels for immigrants from Britain and Europe. They are situated close to the cities of Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne and Adelaide, with ready access to industrial areas. The hostels are operated by Commonwealth Hostels Ltd., a Government instrumentality. Families are accommodated together, a family of three or four getting two or three rooms. The rooms are furnished and linen and towels are provided. Bathrooms, showers, toilets and laundries are in separate communal blocks. Meals are provided in dining rooms on the cafetaria system.
