More than 2000 Greek girls have now migrated to Australia as domestics in a scheme organised by the Inter-governmental Committee for European Migration. The girls, aged 21-25 years, are working in private homes and hospitals in Australia after attendance at a special ICEM domestic science training school in Athens, where they learn English, cooking and general household duties in modern homes, personal hygiene and how to use the latest electric home appliances.
