The Director of the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration, Mr Marcus Daly, is overseas guest of honour this week at the Australian tenth annual Citizenship Convention in Canberra as his first major engagement on a four week visit to Australia and New Zealand. On his arrival at the Kingsford Smith international airport on Sunday, January 18, accompanied by Mrs Daly. More than 250 000 had emigrated from Europe to Australia since the Committee was formed in 1952. In atelevision news interview, Mr Daly told Paul Lynch of ATN Channel 7, that Australia's record in post war immigration was regarded internationally as one of the outstanding social achievements of the period
