More than 200 delegates from all States attended the 10th Australian Citizenship Convention at the Albert Hall, Canberra, January 20-22, 1959. The convention was officially opened by the Governor-General, Sir William Slim. Slim told delegates that a vigorous immigration programme was more important than ever to the security of Australia. Guest of honour at the Convention was Mr Marcus Daly, Director of the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration. He was accompanied by Mrs Daly.
