A Dutch new settler who made a last-minute 600-mile dash to attend the ceremony was among 27 new Australian's naturalized in Orange on My 22, 1958. He is Vries Roelf Gravestein, 28, now a teacher at a boys' college in Orange, NSW. The Mayor of Orange, Ald Lou Cassey, administered the Oath of Allegiance. Later members of the country Women's Association served supper to the new citizens and some 150 people who attended the ceremony. Orange has about 1500 post-war migrants among its 20 000 people
