The first of the young freedom fighters, who came to Melbourne after the 1956 Hungarian uprisings, has become an Australian citizen at a Malvern Town Hall naturalization ceremony. 18 year-old Martin Tomanovit's naturalization was the culmination of an impressive fight to build a new life and career in Australia. When he arrived in Melbourne early in 1957, Martin was friendless and penniless and unable to speak a word of English. He is now a cadet engineer with a Melbourne cigarette company while continuing night studies at Royal Melbourne Technical College. Martin shows his certificate of Citizenship to the National Chaplain of the Young Christian Workers Movement, Father K M Toomey
