Queensland voluntary organizations combined with the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments to provide a special birthday present as part of Queensland's Centenary Celebrations this year. They sponsored many of the 438 British assisted migrants for Queensland aboard the Centenary contingent, the ORION when she arrived in Queensland in the post-war period. As well as the contingent, the ORION also carried the 40 000 assisted British migrants to arrive in Queensland. 24 year-old migrant, Nicol Morton, from Ayrshire, uses an historic telescope for his first view fom the Orion of his new home, Queensland.
