Laszlo Makay arrived in Australia in 1951. He and his wife Eva lived at Bonegilla migrant hostel for almost 20 years and later moved to Canberra with their daughter Trixie. Eva died in 1990 aged 65, 38 years after her arrival in Australia. Laszlo continued to live in Canberra, as he shared his time between Trixie there and relatives in Hungary. He died in Budapest in 2014, aged 96, having enjoyed a remarkably long life.
